We are looking for a Power Plant Engineer

We are looking for a Power Plant Engineer to join the growing team in Tampere and contribute to building a more sustainable future. The role is permanent and we hope you could start working as soon as possible.

With the innovative technology developed by Polar Night Energy, energy can be stored in sand or sand-like materials as thermal energy. The innovative technology is already in commercial use in Kankaanpää, and at a larger scale in Pornainen in the near future. Next, the company is developing capabilities in converting stored heat back to electricity – and this is where you come in!

As a  Power Plant Engineer, you work as an integral part of a small R&D team. Your goal is to ensure the success of the new power-to-heat-to-power product all the way from initial plans to the final product. First, you will participate in the process planning and modeling stage; later you will have an important role in planning, developing and improving the product. In a startup company,  your daily tasks will be versatile and could include modeling and planning the energy conversion process, analyzing the data and results from a pilot plant and implementing the plans and improvements into the final product. The role and responsibilities can be adjusted to your expertise and wishes; however, your main objective is to ensure the new product’s success and accelerate the company towards power-to-heat-to-power readiness.

In the position, you work in close cooperation with both internal and external stakeholders, so we expect good interaction and teamwork skills. You have already gained experience from power plant design tasks, preferably from a wide variety of power production technologies,  and  you want to contribute in building a new power-to-heat-to-power product. Since the team is developing something new, we hope you are willing to think outside the box, find unusual solutions and work autonomously with challenging tasks. Most of all, however, we wish for enthusiasm in learning new things, taking initiative and a genuine desire to build a more sustainable future together with the Polar Night Energy team.

We hope you have:

  • Suitable educational background
  • Prior relevant work experience in energy conversion process design, at least from Rankine and Brayton processes
  • Practical experience from power plant commissioning
  • Genuine interest for creating a more sustainable future with the help of a new technology
  • Self-initiated, curious and analytical mindset
  • Good written and verbal interaction skills in English – Finnish and any other additional languages are seen as an asset

 We consider as an asset:

  • Insight on electrical and automation systems
  • Tech-savviness; ideally you are also familiar with Python

What Polar Night Energy offers you:

  • The opportunity to build a more sustainable tomorrow with the help of new and promising energy storage  technology together with work community full of experts sharing the same mission
  • The opportunity to make your own handprint visible: the company is still small and in its early stages, you can influence not only your own role and the product but also the growth, processes and working methods of the entire company
  • Flexibility and freedom to plan your own work. While we expect to see you at Tampere office  regularly,  you are free to use the office space or home office according to your preferences
  • A work environment where employees’ well-being is the number one priority – at Polar Night Energy, the employees’ work week is 30 hours
  • Employee benefits, such as culture, sports and lunch benefits, and the possibility of an employee bicycle
  • Salary ranges between 4000-6000 €/month and will be determined according to your skills and experience

Do you want to join the mission of building a more sustainable future?

If so, please submit your CV and motivation letter in PDF-format by 18th of August via our application system.
