Purchasing Specialist
The Tampere-based startup company Polar Night Energy, innovator of the world-renowned Sand Battery, is now looking for a Purchasing Specialist to join the growing team in Tampere and contribute to building a more sustainable future. The role is permanent and we hope you can start working as soon as possible.
With the innovative technology developed by Polar Night Energy, energy can be stored in sand or sand-like materials as thermal energy. As a Purchasing Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the cost-effectiveness, quality, and timely delivery of project purchases, significantly impacting Polar Night Energy’s overall profitability and long-term success. The role is new, so you will have an opportunity to bring your insights and experience to both strategic and operational tasks.
More specifically, your main tasks will include:
- Planning and optimizing short-term purchases, from creating purchase orders to managing deliveries and their schedules — primarily for large industrial components such as steel pipes, blowers, resistors, and even complete silos
- Managing a database for purchase orders and potential suppliers
- Negotiating prices and evaluating potential opportunities to make business savings
- Managing and strengthening relationships with suppliers and other relevant stakeholders
- Planning the future purchasing needs together with the project team
- Developing procurement, both with regards to processes and systems, by actively looking for places to work smarter
- Optionally, you can take ownership of Polar Night Energy’s quality documentation based on your interest
In this role, you’ll work closely with both internal and external stakeholders, so we’re looking for strong teamwork, communication, and negotiation skills. You might have worked as a Buyer or in a similar role before, giving you insight into industrial purchasing, and now you’re excited to apply your expertise on both operational and strategic levels. As Polar Night Energy is a growing and evolving company, we’re looking for someone who enjoys thinking outside the box, finding creative solutions, and working independently. We’re focused on developing energy storage systems further, which means we’ll need innovative thinking when it comes to selecting components and designing the storage structures. As a purchasing specialist, you’ll play a key role in participating in these design choices and their impact on overall system costs. Most importantly, we’re looking for someone enthusiastic about owning the entire purchasing process and passionate about building a more sustainable future with the Polar Night Energy team.
We hope you have:
- Suitable educational background
- Prior relevant work experience in purchasing
- Experience with order and tendering databases, with the opportunity to shape and develop the most suitable platform for our needs
- Genuine interest in creating a more sustainable future with the help of new technology
- Independent and proactive way of working
- Good written and verbal interaction skills in English – Finnish, German, and any other additional languages are seen as an asset
We consider as an asset:
- Previous experience or insight into quality assurance
What Polar Night Energy offers you:
- The opportunity to build a more sustainable tomorrow with the help of new and promising energy storage technology together with a work community full of experts sharing the same mission
- The opportunity to make your handprint visible: the company is still small and in its early stages, you can influence not only your role but also the growth, processes, and working methods of the entire company
- Flexibility and freedom to plan your work. While we expect to see you at Tampere office regularly – be it once a week or every day – you are free to use the office space or home office according to your preferences
- A work environment where employees’ well-being is the number one priority – at Polar Night Energy, the employees’ work week is 30 hours
- Employee benefits, such as culture, sports, and lunch benefits, and the possibility of an employee bicycle
- Salary ranges between 4000-6000 €/month and will be negotiated according to your skills and experience
